The Llangollen Canal
Built in the early 19th century to allow trade from the area to reach the sea. It incorporates the magnificent Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which is a UNSECO World Heritage Site. The canal spans across the picturesque River Dee and Ceriog Valleys and affords wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and rolling hills. As well as Thomas Telford's Pontcysyllte Aqueduct there are two tunnels and the Chirk Aqueduct which crosses the border into England. Amongst the scenery, the architecture, the history and the wildlife there really is something for everyone here. See below for our recomendations on journeys.
